Builder Compared fairly

Wix is a website you drive. A managed agency site is one somebody else drives for you

Wix hands an agency a hosted builder, a subscription and a blank canvas, and everything after that is your time: choosing the template, writing the coverage pages, keeping the team page honest, and remembering the site exists in a busy quarter. A managed site removes the doing: the design decisions, the writing, the corrections and the upkeep are the service.

The short answer

Cheap and immediate if you do the work. The work is the part agencies do not have.

01

What a DIY builder is genuinely good for

Getting a real, presentable site online quickly for very little money. A new agent with two lines, no budget and an afternoon can have something live that looks tidy, takes an enquiry and beats having no site at all. That is a legitimate starting point and we would not talk anybody out of it.

02

The point where it stops being cheap

The subscription stays small; the site stops moving. Coverage pages do not get written because writing a good workers comp page takes an afternoon you do not have. The producer who left stays on the team page. The quote form asks for everything because the default form asked for everything. None of it is the builder's fault. It is simply that the work was always going to land on the agency, and the agency has clients.

03

What an agency site has to do that a tidy template does not

Explain twelve coverages in the agency's voice, rank in the towns you write, hand a producer a quote request with the line already tagged, carry the disclaimers your compliance requires, stay current every week, and open instantly on a phone with two bars. A template gets you the look. The rest is content, structure and upkeep.

04

Where the money actually goes

Against a builder subscription, our monthly fee looks larger until you count what is inside it: design, hosting, the domain, weekly updates, revisions with a turnaround in writing, researched articles every week and the coverage finder wired to your management system. The comparison that matters is the subscription plus your hours against one fee with none of your hours.

Side by side Twelve axes

Wix and a managed studio site, line by line

The same twelve axes on every comparison page, so the answers can be read against each other. Nothing in the left column is stated as fact about a specific plan or price; where a claim needs a source, it is cited at the foot of this page.

Be honest

When Wix is the better answer

  • You are starting out with no budgetA tidy builder site beats no site, and an agency in its first year should spend money on leads before it spends it on us.
  • You genuinely enjoy building the siteIf you like doing it and you do it regularly, you get the upside without the fee.
  • One or two lines, one townA small, honest site can be enough when there is not much to explain.

And when not

When a managed studio site wins for an agency

  • The site has not changed in two yearsThat is the usual state of a DIY site at an agency that is busy, which is every agency worth building for.
  • You are buying clicksPaid traffic landing on a slow, generic page is the most expensive way to run a website.
  • You want to look like the agency you actually areA template says competent. A brand system says considered, and in insurance that is the whole first impression.

Together Switching, and running both

How the two fit, and how a switch actually runs

  1. 01

    Moving off a builder

Send us the current site. We keep the copy worth keeping, map every URL that has value to its new page with a 301, preserve working titles, and submit the new sitemap on launch day. Your builder site stays live until the switch.

  2. 02

    Keeping what you like

Any booking calendar, chat widget or tracking script you already use can be carried across, with consent gating that actually controls when it loads.

What changed after the move, from real agency and broker staff, in their own words.

  • Mobile navigation and page layout for commercial coverage reviews

Most of our visitors are on phones, so that is where I reviewed the new commercial coverage reviews pages. Key information comes first and the contact option is clearly labeled. It is far more practical than the old page when we share it with a caller.

  • Page migration and redirect mapping for commercial coverage reviews

Everyone talks about the new design; I cared more about where the old commercial coverage reviews links would land. We reviewed the full redirect map before launch and checked the destinations ourselves. I could share the new site knowing the old links had been taken seriously.

Questions about Wix and a managed site

Is a builder site bad for SEO?

No, the platform is rarely the reason a site does not rank. Thin content, no page per line of business, no local pages and a slow phone experience are the reasons, and those follow you between platforms unless somebody fixes them.

Can we keep our builder subscription while you build?

Yes, and you should. Your current site stays live until launch day, then the domain switches over in minutes.

What happens to the pages we wrote ourselves?

Anything worth keeping is rewritten into your new brand system rather than thrown away, and the URLs that earned traffic are redirected.

Why is your monthly fee higher than a builder subscription?

Because it is not a subscription to software, it is a team. Design, hosting, the domain, weekly updates, revisions, researched articles and the coverage finder are inside it, with the build fee invoiced only after the site is live.

We already have a designer. Can they design it?

They can supply direction, a mark and brand assets, and we will work to them. The system we build from those assets is what holds every page together.

Do we get to edit anything ourselves?

You do not edit; you ask, and it happens. Weekly detail updates for the small facts, and revisions for anything larger, completed within the turnaround in your plan.

Is there a contract?

You pay monthly and cancel by email with the notice set out in the terms. The one-time build fee is invoiced only after your site is live and approved.

How long until we are live?

Seven days on the first plan from the onboarding call, ten and fifteen days on the plans that add the AI and Content engines.
