WordPress gives an insurance agency total control and a permanent maintenance job
WordPress is open source software, licensed under the GPL and built on PHP and a database, which someone has to host, extend with themes and plugins, and keep updated. For an agency with a developer on call or a marketing person who enjoys it, that control is real. For everyone else it is a job that quietly becomes nobody's, and the site ages in public.
Unlimited flexibility, and a plugin, update and security burden that always lands on somebody.

01
Where WordPress genuinely wins
Nothing else offers the same freedom. If you need a membership area for commercial clients, a custom quoting integration nobody else supports, a multilingual site, or a workflow that only exists in your agency, WordPress can be made to do it, and there is a developer in every town who knows it. You also own the software outright: it is yours to host wherever you like.
02
What the maintenance actually looks like
Core updates, theme updates, plugin updates, PHP version bumps, database backups, a security layer, and the occasional morning where an update breaks the quote form. Each item is small. Together they are a standing commitment, and on most agency sites the commitment is honoured for about a year after launch. Old plugins are also how small business sites get compromised, which is a worse conversation than a redesign.
03
Speed is a choice you have to keep making
A WordPress site can be very fast. Getting there means caching, image handling, a theme that is not carrying twelve features you do not use, and restraint about plugins, and holding it there means checking after every change. Our pages are static by construction: there is no database query when a prospect opens your commercial auto page, and the score is guaranteed on every page we build and host.
04
What you are actually comparing
The comparison is not really WordPress against our software. It is WordPress plus a developer, plus a hosting bill, plus the hours of whoever ends up owning it, against one monthly fee where the design, the hosting, the updates, the articles and the corrections are somebody else's responsibility.
Side by side Twelve axes
WordPress and a managed studio site, line by line
The same twelve axes on every comparison page, so the answers can be read against each other. Nothing in the left column is stated as fact about a specific plan or price; where a claim needs a source, it is cited at the foot of this page.
| What you are comparing | WordPress | InsuranceWebStudio |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and Core Web VitalsHow quickly a page appears on a phone with weak signal. | Achievable with caching, a lean theme and discipline, and easy to lose with one plugin. | Static pages with almost no JavaScript, served from the edge, guaranteed on every page we build and host. |
| SEO controlWhether titles, URLs, headings and internal links can be set properly. | Excellent, with the right plugin and someone who knows how to use it. | Excellent by default, set per page as part of the build, with no plugin to configure. |
| Schema and JSON-LDStructured data that tells search engines what each page is. | Plugin-generated, often partial, and prone to drifting from the visible page. | Generated from your agency data for the organization, offices, lines and FAQs on every page. |
| AEO and GEO readinessBeing the extracted answer, and being readable by AI assistants. | Entirely down to how the content is written and structured. | Answer-first structure, question-shaped headings, visible FAQs, llms.txt and consistent naming, as standard. |
| Hosting and securityWhere it runs, who patches it, who watches it. | Your choice and your bill, from shared hosting to managed WordPress hosting. | Cloudflare hosting, SSL, daily backups, security headers and monitoring, inside the monthly fee. |
| Maintenance burdenWhat lands on somebody at the agency every month. | Core, theme, plugin and PHP updates, backups and security, forever. | None at your end. Framework and dependency upkeep happen where you never see them. |
| Who does the workWhose hours go into the site after launch. | A developer on retainer, an agency, or the person in the office who once built a site. | The studio, every week, on the monthly fee. |
| Content and blogWho writes the articles, and how often. | A capable blog you still have to write. | Researched, cited articles every week, written for your lines and your state. |
| Design qualityWhether the site reads as a designed thing or an assembled one. | Anything is possible; a bought theme rarely delivers it. | A brand system set for your agency and held across every page. |
| Accessibility and compliance pagesPolicy pages, consent, disclaimers, readable contrast. | Policy pages, consent banners and accessibility are plugins and decisions you own. | Policy pages written for the site, consent that genuinely gates scripts, accessibility built in, insurance disclaimers placed by design. |
| Cost modelWhat you pay, when, and what is bundled. | Software free, then hosting, premium plugins, a theme and developer time. | One monthly fee, everything inside it, build fee invoiced only after launch. |
| Ownership and lock-inWhose domain, whose words, and what leaving looks like. | Total: the software, the database and the files are yours. | Your domain and your content are yours; the code stays ours while the plan runs, and your content is exported within 14 days if you leave. |
Be honest
When WordPress is the better answer
- You need something genuinely customA client portal, a carrier integration nobody supports, a membership area: WordPress plus a developer will do it, and we will tell you so.
- You have in-house technical helpWith a developer or a capable marketing person on staff, the control is an asset rather than a liability.
- Owning the whole stack matters to youSome principals want the files, the database and the freedom to host anywhere. That is a fair reason to stay.
And when not
When a managed studio site wins for an agency
- Nobody at the agency wants to own a websiteIf the honest answer to "who updates it" is "we keep meaning to", software freedom is not the thing you are short of.
- The site is already three years behindOld plugins, an old theme and a producer who left are a security and trust problem at the same time.
- You want speed and structure without supervising itStatic pages, structured data and weekly articles, measured and corrected by us.
Together Switching, and running both
How the two fit, and how a switch actually runs
- 01
Moving off WordPress without losing rankings
We export your content, map every existing URL to its closest new page, put 301 redirects in place, keep the page titles that are already ranking, and submit the new sitemap on launch day. Your WordPress site stays live until the switch, which takes minutes.
- 02
What we carry across
Copy worth keeping, your articles, your images, carrier lists, team details and any forms you rely on. Plugins do not come across; anything a plugin was doing is either part of the build or replaced by the coverage finder.

Agencies who made this decision
What changed after the move, from real agency and broker staff, in their own words.
Structured reference pages for commercial coverage reviews
The old commercial coverage reviews PDF made sense on a printer and nowhere else. Each section has its own link, so answering a question no longer means attaching the whole file. A printable copy still exists for those who ask.

Everyone talks about the new design; I cared more about where the old commercial coverage reviews links would land. We reviewed the full redirect map before launch and checked the destinations ourselves. I could share the new site knowing the old links had been taken seriously.

Questions about WordPress and a managed site
We just paid for a WordPress site. Should we move?
Probably not yet, and we will say so on a call. Move when the maintenance has stopped happening, the speed is hurting you, or the structure cannot carry the lines you write.
Do we lose our blog posts?
No. Articles come across with their URLs preserved or redirected, their titles kept where they are working, and their formatting rebuilt in your new brand system.
Can we keep our WordPress site as a backup?
You can keep the export. Running two live sites on the same content is a duplication problem for search engines, so only one is served on the domain.
Is a static site less flexible?
For an agency website, rarely: line pages, office pages, articles, forms and the finder all work. Where you genuinely need an application, we will tell you that WordPress or a custom build is the better answer.
What about the plugins we rely on?
Tell us what each one does. Most are replaced by something already in the build, some by an embed, and occasionally a plugin is the reason to stay on WordPress.
Who handles security updates on your site?
We do, on our side, and there is no plugin surface to patch on yours. Hosting, SSL, backups, security headers and monitoring are included.
Can you work on our existing WordPress site instead?
No. We build and manage sites on our own stack, which is how the speed guarantee and the turnaround commitments are possible.
What happens to our domain?
It stays in your name. You point it at the new site, and if you ever leave it points somewhere else, with your exported content in hand.
